The Sentencing Advisory Council has released a new batch of Sentencing Snapshots for six sex offences sentenced in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria.
The offences in the latest release are:
- rape
- sexual assault
- persistent sexual abuse of a child aged under 16
- sexual penetration of a child aged 12 to under 16
- sexual penetration of a child aged under 12
- incest
These new Sentencing Snapshots highlight sentencing trends for the five years to 30 June 2022.
The data in these Sentencing Snapshots show that standard sentences, which came into effect in 2018, are applying to a greater proportion of cases each year.
