Specialist model targets family violence.

Headshot
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is championing a specialist model to address family violence more effectively, as discussed by Supervising Magistrate family violence Therese McCarthy in a recent interview with the Law Institute Journal.

The model is a recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, and it emphasises a holistic approach that addresses the complex factors that contribute to family violence.

The MCV's specialist model includes a number of reforms, such as hearing related matters together, providing more specialist staff, changes to buildings, technology and offering a family-centred approach to family violence proceedings. The MCV is also committed to helping legal practitioners have a better understanding of family violence through its CPD series.
