New appointments to the County Court.

The College warmly congratulates Senior Member Suzanne Kirton and Andrew Palmer SC on their appointments as Judges of the County Court of Victoria.

Judge Kirton signed the Bar Roll in 2000. In 2018, she was appointed as a Senior Member to VCAT.  Since 2021, she has been the Head of the Building and Property List. As a barrister, her areas of practice included building and construction law, contract disputes, insurance claims, and alternative dispute resolution. She regularly appeared in the Supreme Court and the County Court of Victoria and is an accredited mediator.

Judge Palmer signed the Bar Roll in 1999 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2018. His broader practice included criminal trial and appellate work, as well as disciplinary proceedings. He has worked extensively in government regulation and enforcement and has acted in matters involving a broad range of regulators, including regulatory prosecutions. As an academic, his primary area of teaching was the law of evidence. He has published on numerous occasions and developed and taught the Foundations in Advocacy intensive course in the Victorian Bar Readers’ course.

The College looks forward to engaging with Judge Palmer and Judge Kirton throughout this next stage of their professional lives.

Update: Welcome ceremonies to mark the appointments of Judge Palmer and Judge Kirton will be held on Tuesday, 19 September at 9:15am and Thursday, 12 October at 9:15am, respectively. Further details will be made available when they are known.
