Upcoming conference: Enduring courts in changing times.

The Australian Academy of Law, the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration, and the Australian Law Journal will be hosting the Enduring Courts in Changing Times conference, to be held in Sydney and Hobart from 8-10 September 2023.

The conference will mark the bicentenary of the Supreme Courts of New South Wales and Tasmania, and will explore the role of courts in a changing world. Topics to be discussed include the relationship between courts and indigenous peoples, the history of the courts, the appointment of judges, the use of technology in the courts, and the future of the courts.

The conference will have a keynote address by the Hon Susan Kiefel AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia. Additionally, several other distinguished speakers, including the Hon Alan Blow AO, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Hon Helen Bowskill, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Hon Virginia Bell AC, a former justice of the High Court of Australia, the Hon Justice Julie Ward, President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, the Hon Andrew Bell, Chief Justice of New South Wales, and several other prominent members of the judiciary and legal profession, will also be presenting at the event.

The conference will be held at the Supreme Court of New South Wales in Sydney and the Supreme Court of Tasmania in Hobart. There will also be a gala dinner at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park.
