New appointments to the County Court and Coroners Court.

The College warmly congratulates Deputy State Coroner Caitlin English and barrister Peter Rozen QC on their appointment as judges of the County Court of Victoria. 

The College also warmly congratulates Coroner Jacqueline Hawkins on her appointment as a magistrate and Deputy State Coroner, and Catherine Fitzgerald on her appointment as a coroner.

The new appointees bring a wealth of expertise and diverse experience to the justice system. 

Judge English brings more than 22 years of judicial experience to the County Court, having served at the Coroners Court since 2014, including as Acting State Coroner, and as a magistrate in the Melbourne and Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Courts from 2000.

Judge Rozen was admitted to practice in 1988, signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 1998 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2019. 

Deputy State Coroner Hawkins has served the Coroners Court since 2011, first as principal in-house solicitor, before being appointed as a coroner in 2014. 

Ms Fitzgerald was admitted to practice in 2004 and signed the bar roll in 2016. She has extensive experience in criminal law and coronial inquests. 

Their appointments commenced on 5 April 2022.
