The College has released a special episode of its podcast series, Judicial Life.
Following Dr Helen Szoke's Review of Sexual Harassment in Victorian Courts and VCAT, this podcast episode is a compelling discussion between judicial officers about sexual harassment in courts.
Former Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton speaks with judicial officers from three jurisdictions - Justice Chris Maxwell, President of the Victorian Court of Appeal, Judge Justin Hannebery of the County Court of Victoria and Magistrate Jo Metcalf of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.
Together they talk frankly about their perceptions of the culture of courts, the damaging impact of disrespectful behaviour and the roles of power and hierarchy in the workplace.
The conversation paves the way for the policies, procedures and education programs to follow throughout the Victorian courts.
In the words of Chief Justice Anne Ferguson:
‘We will build workplace cultures of respect, fairness and inclusion. Cultures that are safe and where people can trust their colleagues. Cultures which are free from sexual harassment, other wrongful conduct and the barriers they create to workplace participation.’
Please note that the conversation series is available to judicial officers only.
