The College is saddened to hear of the recent passing of the Honourable Peggy Hora, former Judge of the California Superior Court in the United States and international leader in solution-focused courts.
Judge Hora is globally recognised for her significant contributions to therapeutic jurisprudence as a judge, author and teacher. She presided over the Drug Treatment Court in California during her 21 years as a Superior Court Judge and was an award-winning educator delivering training on drug courts and therapeutic jurisprudence in many countries.
Judge Hora was on the faculty of the National Judicial College in the United States for over 25 years and was a Senior Judicial Fellow for the National Drug Court Institute and the Global Centre for Drug Treatment Courts, as well as an Honorary President of the International Therapeutic Jurisprudence Society.
Judge Hora regularly visited Australia, often speaking on the subject of solution-focused courts, and was a much-respected advisor to Australian drug courts. Victorian judicial officers had the great privilege of working with Judge Hora in 2019 when she delivered education sessions to judges in the County Court and the magistrates and multidisciplinary team of the Drug Court of Victoria.
The College offers its condolences and deepest sympathies to Judge Hora’s family at this difficult time.
