NSW Chief Justice Andrew Bell delivered the opening keynote at the 2024 Association of Litigation Funders of Australia Commercial Disputes Conference in Sydney.
In his address, Chief Justice Bell discussed the growth of the litigation funding industry, calls for increased regulation, recent key decisions in Australia and the UK, and the role of litigation funding in international arbitration and class actions. He also highlighted the impact of the 2019 Victorian legislation that permits contingency fees in class actions, noting that Victoria has become a preferred forum for such cases.
