On National Sorry Day 2023, the Judicial College of Victoria honours the strength and resilience of our First Nations peoples, the oldest living culture in the world.

We remember the mistreatment of the Stolen Generations, and we are sorry for the pain inflicted on forcibly removed First Nations children.

The Stolen Generations was part of a systematic attempt to erase Aboriginal language, wisdom, dance, song and spirituality. This has affected multiple generations and has led to a profound loss of identity.

We recognise that this trauma persists today, and reconciliation aims to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and non-Indigenous peoples for the benefit of all Australians.

During Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June), the Judicial College of Victoria enthusiastically welcomes the reconciliation process, which in Victoria encompasses the significant efforts of the Yoorrook Justice Commission and the forthcoming Makarrata Commission.

Together, we can learn from our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, striving to contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
