Bail in Victoria is changing on 21 May – the biggest changes in 40 years to the Bail Act 1977.

Justice Paul Coghlan, whose recommendations underlie the reforms, and the College’s David Tedhams briefed the judiciary last night on the changes.

We have published a range of materials on the changes, including:

  • A new bail decision making flowchart
  • Annotated legislative materials that highlight the new provisions of the Act
  • DJR’s overview table of the legislative changes
  • Plain language versions of the lists of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 offences
  • Collected bail conditions
  • A list of risk indicators in family violence cases.
